INFRASTRUCTURE: UMAHI ASKS FG TO REFUND EBONYI’S N33BN
The Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. David Umahi yesterday asked the Senate to facilitate a refund of over N33 billion which the state had so far spent in building Federal Government’s infrastructures, including roads and bridges. Umahi, while fielding questions from the Senate committee at the National Assembly, Abuja, said that Ebonyi state government had spent over N33 billion in building Federal Government’s roads and bridges including three flyovers spanning over 1.8km along the Enugu -Abakaliki Trans Saharan highway. 
He said that the projects were roads built by the past administration which contract sum had not been refunded to the state government, urging the committee to facilitate the refund to enable the state government use it for more developmental projects.
Umahi commended the Senate Committee for their diligence and commitment towards evaluating claims by various state governments on the construction of federal government infrastructure. In his speech, the Senate Ad hoc Committee Chairman on works, Senator Francis Alemekinah commended Umahi for his love for his state, assuring him that the Committee would do everything possible within the rules of their engagement to ensure that Federal Government refunded Ebonyi every kobo it had spent in building Federal Government’s infrastructure. 
The Chairman further directed Ebonyi state government to forward necessary documents including approvals from the federal government for the construction of the roads and bridges to the Clerk of the Ad hoc committee for further deliberations
