AN OVERVIEW OF THE MINISTRY

Ebonyi State Ministry of Youth and Sport Development is located at State Secretariat Complex, Opposite Unity square, Abakaliki.

Mr. Akpuenika Emeka Charles is the political Head of the Ministry. He is from Oyi LGA of Anambra State but was born in Abakaliki of Ebonyi State has a Bachelor Degree in Agriculture from the Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki. While in the University, he was the President of Anambra Student Union after which he was the Councillor Urban Ward 4.

The Ministry was set up to promote and facilitate youth employment. Provision of facilities for/and promotion of youth and sports activities (including the affairs of the state Chapters of the National Youth Council of Nigeria NYSN). It also performs registration & organization of voluntary youth organizations and Clubs.

The Ministry within the period under review has witnessed great positive changes and achievements irrespective of the dwindling economy of the Nation. The Government through the Ministry has selflessly sponsored numerous Projects and Programmes to better the lots of the teaming Ebonyi Youths.

VISION
To maintain a sustainable Socio-economic Development through reactivation and management of Youths and Sports sub-sectors.

MISSION
To achieve Gender positive and friendly approach to Youths development through active Sport Innovation, Creativity and Ingenuity.

The policy trust/vision of the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports among others include :

  • Promotion and encouragement of Youths employment in all sectors of the economy thereby bringing into focus Government efforts in areas of poverty eradication, crime reduction and Youths unemployment etc.
  • Determined to produce responsible, hardworking, creative and result-oriented Youths of Ebonyi State who are committed to Nation Building.
  • Provision of Facilities for promotion of Youths proactiveness through skills acquisition and other Sporting activities.
  • Registration, monitoring and organization of Voluntary Youth Clubs and Associations.
  • Treating of NYSC matters.

  • Census of unemployed youths
  • Organization of state ministerial sports
  • Organise various football competition.
  • Student's holiday’s programme
  • Community based youth clubs.
  • Independence anniversary.
  • Leadership training for school.
  • International youth week.
  • Citizenship courses for voluntary youth organization
